Recovery Roast

Recovery Roast

Recovery Roast Coffee is a direct service component to my Fifty/Fifty projects. Recovery Roast Coffee is a custom roasted coffee whose flavor profile is determined by local populations of persons in long term recovery. Working with site-specific, local artisan coffee roasters, Recovery Roast introduces local recovery communities to the rich history of coffee and the complexities of roasting, tasting and preparation options.

In Richmond I partnered with Rams in Recovery , the JHW Foundation, the Richmond Bicycle Studio & the Lamplighter Roasting Company (now Afterglow Coffee Cooperative) to create the Free Hot Coffee Bike

The Free Hot Coffee Bike radiates out into the community with our pop-up pour over coffee station where the general public can engage with with people in long term recovery and their allies, and learn about the project, over free hot cups of “Recovery Roast” coffee. The Free Hot Coffee bike has traveled to North Carolina State University, George Washington University and MICA and the University of Georgia in November 2017.

A Tate Museum edition of "Recovery Roast " was produced in the Spring of 2018 as part of the Tate Exchange Program. Custom “Recovery Roast” coffees have been created in Richmond, Liverpool, UK and Baltimore, Maryland.
